Good Will Hunting: The Analogy Of Trauma

Image
"It's not your fault" Good Will Hunting is possibly another movie that I personally love to watch over and over again. The characters, the writing, and the directing work so well together. It's amusing to think about how 19-year-olds Ben Affleck and Matt Damon made this masterpiece at such a young age which ultimately won them their first Oscar as well. Good Will Hunting is a movie about a guy named Will who is gifted with extreme intelligence however he chooses to work as a janitor in Harvard, and he ends his day with going to the bars with his friends. However, his life takes a huge turn of an event when he is spotted by the mathematics professor as he is solving a sum on the board that has taken even for the professor years to solve. The professor observes that Will has a lot of unresolved issues, therefore he decides he set him up with therapists however one after another all of the therapists assigned to Will decide to back out and this is because of Will's d...

Squid Game: The Result Of Capitalism

Image
Squid Game  The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. A degrading and regressive society that has resulted because of late-stage capitalism.  “Squid game is a reflection of the hellish capitalistic system that we built.” Squid game is a Korean Netflix series, in which the characters play children’s games in order to receive prize money and if they are eliminated, they are killed off immediately. The characters are driven by their greed and desire to improve their current state hence they willingly play the games despite having the chance to leave it all behind after witnessing the horror of being killed when eliminated. Each time a player is killed, additional money is added to the prize pot, displayed in the form of a giant levitating piggy bank in the middle of the players’ dormitory. Karl Marx's theory of class struggle argues that society consists of two main competing class, the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The bourgeoisie are the owners of the means of produ...

The Opressed: State of change

Image
The choice to remain silent is ours however the choice to do something for the others is also ours. We are given the free will to make choices for ourselves and for others however when someone is oppressed right before us, is staying quiet the best choice? During the fourth hour our professor Sir David Wesley introduced to us about Forum Theatre, the 2nd MA students presented a wonderful play for us which was about the oppressed dogs living in the jungle among all the wild animals. The oppressed dogs were a representation of the lower caste people in our society and how they were treated was a direct metaphor for the injustice that has occurred in history towards them in our Indian society.  We can bring in so much change for others if we just choose to stand up and not remain quiet, our fear of falling into the same state as the oppressed stops us from actually doing so much for them, in this case we are no less than the oppressors or the bullies, we, the bystanders are equally le...

Late Stage Capitalism: The End Of All

Late-Stage Capitalism  Societies where people are seen nothing more than commodities to generate profit is a direct cause of late-stage capitalism. Millions of people dying due to poverty, the degradation of our planet, the way social media sucks all of our time, the chaos created on the news, all of these problems have something in common and that is capitalism.  But what about Capitalism and is there a future without it? As Adam Smith has said “Capitalism caters to our human nature in a unique way”. A profound of justifying the disgusting nature of capitalism but it holds true to how humans are. The greed and desire for intense personal success even at the expense of other people is something that lies among many people, but just because these things may be considered natural does that mean capitalism should also be considered natural. America, the sole superpower among nations, the country with the strongest economic and military system is nothing a but a big hypocrit...
