Beautiful Boy: Battling through addiction

Beautiful Boy

"The monsters gone

he's on the run

and your daddy's here

beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy"

Beautiful Boy is a movie directed by Felix Van Froeningen, it is a true story based on the memoirs of Father and Son David and Nic Sheff respectively.

This melodramatic film explores the harrowing journey of addiction and the impact it has on both the addict and the loved ones. The story depicts the beautiful relationship between a father and his son. Both the actors, Timothee Chalamet and Steve Carell deliver powerful performances.

The journey of battling through addiction is tough not just for the addict but for the loved ones as well. It is absolutely heartbreaking to see someone you love so much crumble down due to addiction; this is what Nic's father Steve undergoes throughout the movie; He is completely helpless at one point because you can only do so much for even the ones you deeply love. The father's constantly tries to get his son out of the addiction however, even after repeated trials over and over again it all ends in failure. This movie is frustrating for many viewers but at the same time it's realistic and it does not glorify addiction but rather shows the turmoil that people go through due to addiction.

Although there are actually lots of articles that criticizes the movie by saying that it made the ugly parts of drug abuse too beautiful I personally would like to disagree with that because I don't think the movie ever tried to make any of the ugly parts of drug abuse beautiful neither did it try to glorify it but rather it was just trying tell the story from the perspective of a helpless father trying to save his son.

The film is a melodrama that takes us into the chaotic lives of a father and his son, one is sure to resonate with this film if they have gone through addiction or if anyone around them has went through it.
